2 Weeks Later

So two weeks into having the cast on, I would like to share what what has helped us to make things a little more easy for the baby.

Seating:

We bought a back rest for him to sit on, they have them at Bed Bath and you can use a coupon. This has provided the most support for him, and keeps him upright the best. He sits on it in addition to a foldout chair we already had from Toys R Us.

I also went out and bought him a bean bag chair, but this one is a real chair, it's a little more reclined, but he seems to like it, and so does his big brother. Bonus, this chair is also water proof, so the water just sits there and doesn't seep it, which has been great!

Feeding:

The baby insists on sitting at the table with us, and I'm trying to keep things as normal as possible. I did some research and decided on this chair because it also has underneath storage, which is great. The straps are a bit snug on one side, so if your child has a bigger cast, it might not fit.  It is a bit girly, but I don't really care.

Clothing

He's two and normally can wear 2T onesies, we got him in 3T onesies and those have been fine keeping him clothed and keeping the diaper in place. When he wasn't in one, he would try to pull out his diaper, not fun for anyone.

Getting Around

Thank God we already had a few things that would still fit. He sits in a Britax car seat, and that one seems to be perfect, without having to buy a Hippo. We borrowed it from a friend and it's been fine, just a little tricky making sure he's totally strapped in sometimes. I think it's this seat, but I'm not 100% sure.

He still thankfully also fits into his stroller, which I bought when he was a baby to use as a double. It makes me love this stroller even more, we've definitely gotten our use out of it. He really likes to play with the canopy these days, and play peek a boo with us.

Diapering

Diapering has not been fun (when is it ever?). What I've been doing is sticking with his usual size, which is a 5. I put a maxi pad inside it then tuck it into his cast. He has peed out of it a few times, which has been incredibly gross, but it seems to work pretty well. I'm thinking of going up to a six to get it a bit more wide to fit more snugly into his cast. I don't know how parents do it with smaller diapers, but bigger works better in our case.

The little monkey is flipping, army crawling, reversing, and getting all over the place mashaAllah. He mostly sits and plays or watches TV, but I know he gets bored and frustrated. Most of the time he just wants to be held.  He has also been sleeping in our room for the most part. Friday we had an appointment with the doctor, who told us it would be okay to move him back to his room. He's been asking to sleep back with his brother, and I think he misses it. I put back the tall crib rail, and moved the toddler rail once again. He napped for the first time in awhile, and slept pretty well the first night, thank God. In our room, it was worse than a newborn, he was constantly waking up and wanting to be held. At least his room has a rocking chair, and I can rock him back to sleep.
